The Hon. Julian Hill MP congratulates Emerge Magazine on Independent Multicultural Media funding
Emerge Media Group Pty Ltd has been awarded a grant through the Australian Government’s Independent Multicultural Media β Transformation and Sustainability program, with a formal message of congratulations issued by the Hon. Julian Hill MP, Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Minister for International Education.
The funding will support Emerge Magazine’s digital transformation and community information desk project β strengthening the publication’s capacity to serve Geelong’s multicultural communities with timely, accurate, and accessible information.
In his message, Assistant Minister Hill stated: “The Albanese Government recognises and appreciates the work of independent, multicultural media organisations as trusted voices in communities, helping to foster an inclusive and informed society.”
The grant reflects growing recognition at the federal level that independent community media plays a critical role in ensuring all Australians β regardless of language background or cultural heritage β have access to reliable information. “Multicultural media organisations help to ensure all Australians have access to timely, trusted information in their preferred language,” the Minister noted. “Democratic participation is strengthened when Australia’s media landscape reflects the full diversity of our nation.”
For Emerge Magazine, which has served Geelong’s African and broader multicultural communities since its establishment, the funding marks a significant milestone β providing a runway for digital growth, community reach, and sustainable journalism at the local level.
