Chiaka Moneke: Championing Rights and Breaking Barriers

    Domestic Violence Advocate

Chiaka Moneke’s work as a lawyer and advocate for domestic violence victims represents a crucial shift in how communities address abuse and support survivors.

As ACT nominee for Australian Government Department Australian of the Year 2021, Chiaka has dedicated her career to empowering women and protecting vulnerable community members. Her work focuses on ensuring victims have access to legal representation and safe pathways to independence.

“Our role is to be a voice for those who feel voiceless,” she explains. Chiaka believes in creating lasting change through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Her approach emphasizes building cultural competency within legal systems while ensuring African women understand their rights and available protections.

Through her advocacy, Chiaka works to eliminate barriers that prevent women from seeking help, creating a more accessible and culturally sensitive support system for those who need it most.
